SU MAJESTAD LA SELVA | 4 DAYS 3 NIGHTS
A TRIP THAT WILL MAKE YOUR DREAMS TO COME TRUE
Day one: The Nauta Caño Basin is the closest basin in Pacaya Samiria to visit from Iquitos. It will take us 1 hour to reach to the Control Station where we must present our permits and sign in our entrance. Our Guide will explain about the Rangers job and the main species that can be found along the river and lakes. We will continue our journey and will reach the place where we will set our campsite. On our way, we will be able to see different species of birds, gray river dolphins and some squirrel monkeys. We will make fire to prepare our lunch.
After taking a brief break we are going to set the tents and get ready to go for a hike searching for macaws, toucans and red howler monkeys. We must be back before sunset to prepare dinner.
Tonight we are going to take a brief hike looking for tarantulas, frogs and snakes.
Day two: This is a beautiful morning.
The noisy red howler monkeys will wake us up and we must go on a boat ride along one of the tributaries of Nauta Caño to watch as much birds as we can. Black collared hawks, great egrets, cormorants, kingfishers, wattled jacanas and terns are the most popular birds and easy to see.
Breakfast will be prepared and served in the campsite and right after enjoying it we are going to have a hike in pristine jungle in the search of some other species of mammals.
Pacas and armadillos are not easy to find but we will do our best to spot them. This is also a good chance to learn about the different tree species from the jungle.
We must return to the campsite for lunch.
This afternoon we will take our boat to explore one of the creeks to try to find giant river otters. We know that They den by burrowing into banks or under fallen logs, and establish a home territory that they will aggressively defend.
We must get back before sunset and prepare food for dinner.
Tonight, our boat driver will take us for a ride to spot some caimans and night birds.
Day three: After sunrise we need to get ready to continue our jungle tour. After eating breakfast our boat will be ready to take deeper in the rainforest. Our expectancy is to reach one of the lakes in the area. On our way we must keep our eyes wide open and see if there is any anaconda sunbathing on the fallen trees by the sore of the river. This will also be a good chance to see red howler monkeys, green iguanas and hopefully some capybaras.
After lunch our local guide will lead a fishing excursion by the lake. There is a large possibility to catch big piranhas and other type of fish. What we catch is what we will have for dinner.
A boat excursion awaits tonight and we expect to see larger caimans and snakes.
Day four: This will be a beautiful day and we will start it contemplating the sunrise from the lake. This lake is home to pink dolphins and we will be able to see them from the boat.
Now, we are going to undo the tents and get everything ready for our journey back to the city. Nature is always surprising and we never know if on our way back, we can see any animal that we did not see in the previous days.
Lunch will be served on the boat.
